Bali Furniture Sea Freight, the Steady Way Home

Bulky, heavy, solid wood: furniture is the cargo ocean freight was made for — priced by the cubic metre, cushioned by proper crating.

Quick answer

Sea freight is the standard, cost-effective way to send Bali furniture home. As of 2026, LCL door-to-door runs USD 350–450 per CBM to Australia (4–8 weeks) and USD 400–550 to the USA and EU (6–12 weeks), with no minimum beyond 1 CBM.

Why ocean

Why sea beats air for furniture

Sea charges by the cubic metre, so a carved daybed or a teak dining set travels for a fraction of air’s volumetric-weight price. Solid wood also rides best in sturdy heat-treated crates, not squeezed into aircraft limits.

We are an independent shipping concierge, not a carrier or licensed customs broker. Freight and clearance run through vetted licensed forwarders.

Sea or air

How the two modes compare

Priced by Cubic metre (CBM) or container Volumetric (dimensional) weight
Best for Villa loads, wardrobes, tables, daybeds Tiny, urgent, high-value items
Indicative transit 4–8 wks AU · 6–12 wks USA/EU A few days
Packing ISPM-15 wood crates, photo-proof Constrained by aircraft limits

Shared or sole

LCL or a full container

LCL shares a container, so you pay only for your CBM — ideal for a few pieces or a room. FCL gives you the whole box: a 20ft holds a modest home, a 40ft a large villa, and per-CBM cost drops once it is full.

Stay with LCL up to roughly 10–12 CBM, then compare a full 20ft; the desk runs both numbers.

Sea freight bands by route

A multi-item load is its CBM count times the per-CBM band.

Cost drivers

What moves your sea freight price

  • Volume and destination — the biggest levers.
  • ISPM-15 crating — solid wood over 6 mm debarked, heat-treated to a 56 °C core for 30 minutes or fumigated, and marked; DAFF applies it to pallets and crating.
  • Pickup and consolidation — Ubud, Seminyak, Canggu or Kerobokan, consolidated near Denpasar, confirmed per booking.
  • Destination clearance — US shipments incur duties since the August 2025 de minimis suspension, plus CBP entry, an ISF and a Lacey declaration (phase VII, TSCA Title VI). EU teak relies on SVLK or FSC papers. The WCO signals no tariff-code overhaul before HS 2027.
  • Insurance and season — cover is priced on declared value; monsoons and Indonesian holidays can stretch transit.
