Quick answer

FCL books a whole 20ft or 40ft container. In 2026 a 20ft runs about USD 2,500–4,500 and a 40ft USD 4,000–7,000 on the Indonesia–USA lane, with 4–8 weeks at sea to Australia and 6–12 weeks to the USA and EU.

Sole occupancy

What a full container buys you

No one else’s cargo shares the space. Your crates are sealed near Denpasar and opened only at your door or the customs exam site — the control, and lower per-piece cost, that villa owners and dealers pay for.

We are an independent shipping concierge, not a carrier or licensed customs broker. Container, crating and clearance run through vetted licensed forwarders.

What a Bali furniture container costs

Two box sizes cover almost every furniture shipment; LCL sits alongside for comparison.

20ft container ~20–28 CBM crated USD 2,500–4,500 AU 4–8 wks · USA/EU 6–12 wks 1–2 rooms, partial villa
40ft container ~45–58 CBM crated USD 4,000–7,000 AU 4–8 wks · USA/EU 6–12 wks Whole villa, dealer bulk
LCL, for comparison From 1 CBM, no MOQ USD 350–450/CBM AU · 400–550 USA/EU AU 4–8 wks · USA/EU 6–12 wks Loads under ~12 CBM

Container prices are for the Indonesia–USA lane; Australia and EU container rates are confirmed per booking.

The break-even

When a full container beats LCL

Below roughly 12–15 CBM, LCL is cheaper because you pay only for the cubic metres you use.

  • 1–8 CBM: LCL almost always; a few chairs and a bed rarely justify a box.
  • 12–15 CBM: the crossover, where a 20ft’s flat rate starts undercutting per-CBM LCL.
  • 20+ CBM: FCL clearly wins per piece; a 40ft suits a full villa or a dealer’s order.

A sealed box also skips deconsolidation beside other shippers’ goods, lowering the odds of scuffs and mix-ups on fragile carving.

Load planning

What fits in a 20ft or a 40ft

Crating voids and non-stackable pieces mean a box never fills to its theoretical maximum.

  • 20ft (~20–28 CBM crated): a living room set, a dining table with eight chairs, two beds and several cabinets — roughly a one-to-two-bedroom villa.
  • 40ft (~45–58 CBM crated): a complete multi-room villa, or a retailer’s mix of sofas, daybeds, consoles and outdoor teak.

The desk sizes your box against an itemised packing list, so you never guess between a tight 20ft and a half-empty 40ft.

Compliance

Crating rules and customs at the other end

A full container is not exempt from ISPM-15: solid wood over 6 mm is debarked, heat-treated to a 56 °C core for 30 minutes or fumigated, and marked on two opposing faces. Australia’s DAFF applies it to pallets, dunnage, crating and skids alike.

Since August 2025 every commercial container into the USA incurs duties. Wood furniture falls under Lacey Act phase VII (from 1 December 2024) and TSCA Title VI: a CBP entry, an ISF and a Lacey declaration.

EU-bound teak commonly relies on SVLK or FSC papers. Your licensed forwarder files them all.
